Échos en Soi - Echoes Within
148x105cm oil on canvas, Échos Intérieurs exposes ones inner journey and echos of reflection.
Échos en soi unfolds as a dense field of faces, symbols, and gestures, where forms appear to emerge from one another in constant movement. Rather than fixed portraits, the faces & figures feel like emotional echoes — fragments of memory, instinct, and presence layered across the surface. Eyes repeat throughout the composition, giving the work a feeling of perpetual watching, reflection, and inner dialogue.
The artist’s open and instinctive approach to brushwork gives the painting its raw character. Lines remain loose, direct, and emotionally immediate, embracing spontaneity over precision. Bold contours hold together an explosion of saturated color — electric blues, reds, greens, and yellows vibrating against one another in rhythmic tension. Shapes drift freely between mask, figure, and abstraction, carrying an innocence that feels almost childlike yet expressive. Despite the visual intensity, the composition settles into a kind of inner harmony, when thoughts start to echo softly within the self.
About the Artist: Youssef El Khorib is a self taught artist born in1963 in Morocco. He paints as a way to apprehend the everyday life far from the usual mundane. His universe is a perpetual swing between dream and reality. Working with a vibrant palette and recurring motifs, his paintings are animated by bold, expressive brushwork. Faces, signs, minarets, rowboats, and donkeys appear throughout his work, woven into lively and richly textured compositions. Although his paintings typically resemble a link between the African coast and the European Mediterranean not too far away, this painting maintains an African feel.
